This is something I've been thinking a lot about lately. Some people are so negative about having kids and they talk as if it's a burden or something getting in the way of their plans. For me though it's not about what I "gave up" to have kids but about what I gained. My life has changed a lot... but only for the better. How has your life changed after kids?
To all my new followers I just wanted to let you know about a project I've been working on called You've probably seen it in the media, but in case you missed it, I started a petition to ban smoking around our little ones. We are all aware how toxic passive smoking is, but as adults we need to take action and change the law. Because every child has a right to grow up in a safe and smoke-free environment. To sign my petition click on the link in my bio. #speakupforourkids

Little Miss helping mummy put the decorations on the Christmas tree 🎄. This is the first year she has been able to get involved and she loved it. I actually didn't realise how tall she is until I saw this photo of her. Stop growing! Please stay my baby forever! 😥 I noticed quite a few people put their trees up in November. When do you put yours up? 💋 Little Miss wearing: @poppyharper_thelabel and @striderite shoes #christmastradition #christmas2017
Santa photos are every kid's rite of passage… right? Well not for my daughter, because her dad won’t let her get one. 😢 I first raised the topic with him when my daughter was one year old. The childhood tradition of taking a photo with Santa 🎅 was something I always looked forward to. I thought it was so cute when a photo would pop up on my feed of a family wearing matching Christmas outfits alongside Santa. So when I casually raised it with him I was not prepared for his answer. “I’m not letting my daughter sit on some creepy old man’s lap!”, he declared. “Please do not take her”, he pleaded. Episode 67 of the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast is out NOW - "Single mums of boys and their rite of passage, with Kate Mather and Michael Hayes". You can find this podcast in iTunes here: https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/single-mother-survival-guide/id1147075160?mt=2 Or find other ways to listen to this podcast here: http://www.singlemothersurvivalguide.com/podcast-2/ or search for Single Mother Survival Guide in any of the podcast apps. In this week's episode of the Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast I chat with single mum Kate Mather and single dad Michael Hayes. Raising three children (two of them boys) as a single mum, Kate worried about being able to provide "manly" opportunities to her sons, and so who better to team up with than single dad and outdoor expedition adventurer Michael Hayes? Michael has been conducting outdoor adventure programs with corporates, professional sporting teams and family groups for the last 20 years. He has a Bachelor of Exercise Science, a diploma of Outdoor Recreation, and he is a Former QLD and NSW Rugby Union player. Together, Kate and Michael decided to create a program called a ‘Rite of Passage’ for boys. It is specifically for boys that may not have a male figure present in their life and it is an opportunity to have a weekend of male bonding and growth whilst seeking to find respect in others and manage those core responses to situations as they develop throughout these transitional #singlemumblog #riteofpassage #singlemum #kangaroovalley #sydneymums #makingmemories #inspiration #singlemomblog #singlemom #raisingboys #singlemother #blogger #singlemothersurvivalguide #motivation #celebratemen #makingmen #wildernessexperience #empoweredwomen #boystomen #southcoastnsw #podcast #girlsrising #sydneymumblogger #singlemums #positivevibes #southcoastholidays #mumsofboys #strongwomen #singleparent #wearestrongwomen
Dear high heels, It’s been a while. I used to live in you. When others needed flats to run in, I could run in you. When others needed to take a back up shoe, I put all my faith solely in you. While others walked barefoot in the city in early hours of the morning, I kept you on… because sorry I don’t do barefoot EVER. No matter what the situation is. I’d much rather die walking in heels than expose my feet to the contaminants of the ground. But not just because of that, because CLASS ladies. Don’t walk around tipsy in the city barefoot – ever. But in all honesty, I’ve been neglecting you the last few years because of I came across you the other day and carefully took you out of your beautiful red dust bag. I met your glance. You were still tall, dark and handsome. Completely scuff free, and in impeccable condition. You were exactly like I remembered you. I reminisced about all the great experiences we shared. I asked myself if we could create a new memory? I so wanted to dip my pedicured toes deep into your beautiful groove. I bit my top lip as I imagined the possibilities... - Click the link in my bio to read the rest 'I still love you'. WARNING: Mills & Boon worthy. Enjoy 😘 #mumlife
How often are us mums always the ones holding the camera 📷. Always making the photo happen but never actually in the photo? Since starting my blog I've had to take a step back and hand over the camera. Because I realised I was taking some beautiful photos of my little girl but I was never in the shot. When she looks back at memories I want her to see that I was there... every step of the way. I hope she will remember what I looked like and how involved I was. I want her to remember the smile on my face and the way she made me feel which is 💞 How do you want your kids to remember you? #happy

I'm super excited about receiving these books today. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love empowering young girls. So I was on the look-out for some feminist literature for Little Miss and my niece who is turning 7 soon. I came across these gems and I just had to share. I want to educate our kids on the incredible women who helped shape the world we live in. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream. These books would also suit a boy too, especially the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series 😘
Today I felt defeated. Little Miss was a handful and a half. I don’t know if it’s this “terrible two” thing everyone speaks of… but she wore me down. I found myself breaking down in the shower and just crying for a good ten minutes, then in the afternoon I cried another two times. It seemed over the last few days nothing I could do could please her. She wanted a cup, I gave her one. She cried. She didn’t want it anymore. She wanted the purple cup now. Then I gave her the purple cup, then she didn’t want it anymore either, and she screamed and cried. She tried to climb up the fridge, I said no and asked her to get down. She would listen. As I tried to pull her away she wouldn’t let go of the shelf, trying to knock over all the food. There was another drama to deal with. Her high-pitched crying was probably heard by the neighbours. She wanted an apricot, but then once I went to wash it. She got upset, and there was another fit of rage. She was upset because SHE wanted to wash it. Then she didn’t want it anymore. She grabbed the dog’s dried food and scattered it all over the lounge room floor. Of course, she wouldn’t help clean it up. Then she randomly threw her water bottle hard at the dog, and the poor dog was yelping in pain. She wouldn’t sit in her chair and eat dinner, even though I knew she was probably hungry as she hadn’t eaten in hours. All while she kept demanding “snacks”, i.e code for junk food, instead. Then trying to get her to sleep was like World War 3, you get the gist? The crying, the tantrums, they just really wear you down sometimes. By the time she was asleep, I felt mentally drained. I had no energy to get any of my chores done. I just needed time out. To sip on a tea, read my book in silence. Basically, get nothing done. Just clear my mind, and absorb the quiet. Then I remembered something I read the other day “there are people that would love to have your bad days”. Oh how right is this? I had a bad day. But overall, it’s not that bad. We’re all healthy, have a roof over our heads, and we are loved. What more could someone ask for? #whatyouhaveothersareprayingfor
